BHMTPMPA (Bis(1,6-hexamethylenetetramine) pentamethylenetetramine) liquid is typically an acidic, high-concentration water treatment chemical. Based on its common concentrations and chemical properties, plastic containers (IBC ton drums and polyethylene drums) are the primary and recommended packaging formats.
Below are specific packaging options and considerations:
I. Primary Packaging Formats
IBC Ton Containers (Intermediate Bulk Container)
Capacity: Typically 1000 liters (approximately 1 cubic meter or 1 ton).
Structure: External metal or plastic cage with an inner liner made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
Advantages:
High Safety: HDPE exhibits excellent corrosion resistance against BHMTPMPA.
Cost-Effective: Ideal for large-scale industrial users, offering high efficiency in loading/unloading, transportation, and storage with low unit packaging costs.
Ease of Operation: Typically equipped with a bottom discharge valve for convenient liquid transfer.
Applications: The most common packaging method for bulk purchases and industrial users.
HDPE Plastic Drum
Capacity: Common sizes include 200 liters (55-gallon blue drum), 120 liters, 25 liters, etc.
Material: Must be high-density polyethylene (HDPE).
Advantages:
Corrosion Resistance: Identical material to IBC liners ensures excellent chemical compatibility.
Flexibility: Suitable for small-to-medium users or laboratory applications, offering greater handling and storage flexibility than IBCs.
Applications: Small-to-medium batch procurement, samples, or as a supplement to IBC containers.
II. Importance of Packaging Material: Why Must It Be HDPE?
Acid Resistance: BHMTPMPA liquids are typically acidic (low pH). HDPE offers excellent acid resistance, ensuring long-term stable containment without corrosion or leakage.
Chemical Inertness: HDPE does not react chemically with BHMTPMPA or its solutions, ensuring product purity and preventing contamination from material dissolution.
Strength and Durability: HDPE possesses robust mechanical strength to withstand impacts and pressures during normal transportation and stacking.
III. Prohibited Packaging Materials
Metal Containers: Carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metal containers are strictly prohibited. BHMTPMPA is a highly effective metal corrosion inhibitor, but its mechanism involves forming a protective film on metal surfaces at high concentrations. Under static storage conditions, high concentrations of acidic products can severely corrode metal containers, leading to perforation, leakage, and product contamination/degradation.
Ordinary Glass Containers: While glass resists acids, its fragility makes it unsuitable for large-scale transportation and industrial settings. It may only be used for extremely small laboratory samples.
IV. Labeling and Transportation
Labeling: Packaging must bear clear labels indicating product name (BHMTPMPA), concentration, net weight, production batch number, production date, manufacturer information, and relevant safety symbols (e.g., corrosive hazard warnings).
Transportation: Typically transported as general chemical cargo. Ensure packaging remains fully sealed and securely positioned to prevent leakage or spillage during transit.
Summary
Corrosion Inhibitors BHMTPMPA liquid should be packaged in high-density polyethylene (HDPE) containers.
Bulk Transport (approx. 1 ton):
Preferably use IBC ton containers with HDPE liners.
Small to Medium Batches (25-200 liters):
Use HDPE plastic drums.
