HEDP 60: High-Performance Scale and Corrosion Inhibition Across Industries

HEDP (1-Hydroxy Ethylidene-1,1-Diphosphonic Acid) is one of the most widely used organophosphonic acid scale and corrosion inhibitors in industrial water treatment. Shandong Kairui Chemistry Co., Ltd. supplies HEDP 60% aqueous solution as a ready-to-use liquid formulation for immediate dosing in water treatment programs.

Outstanding thermal and chemical stability. HEDP maintains excellent scale and corrosion inhibition effects at temperatures up to 250°C, making it suitable for high-temperature circulating water systems and medium/low-pressure boilers. It resists hydrolysis under high pH conditions and is not easily decomposed under ordinary light and heat exposure. Its acid/alkali and chlorine oxidation tolerance are superior to other organophosphonic acids and their salts.

Powerful chelation performance. HEDP chelates with Fe, Cu, Zn, and other metal ions to form stable complexes and can dissolve oxidized materials on metal surfaces. It reacts with calcium ions in particular to form six-membered ring chelates, delivering excellent scale inhibition and a notable threshold effect. The calcium chelating capacity of HEDP 60% is ≥500 mg CaCO₃/g.

Dosage and synergy. Typical dosages are 1–10 mg/L as a scale inhibitor, 10–50 mg/L as a corrosion inhibitor, and 1,000–2,000 mg/L as a cleaning agent. When combined with polycarboxylic acid dispersants or other water treatment chemicals, HEDP exhibits ideal synergistic effects.

Broad industry applications. HEDP 60 is widely used in cooling water systems at power plants, chemical facilities, and metallurgical operations; medium/low-pressure boilers; oilfield water injection and pipeline systems; textile and light industry as a peroxide stabilizer and dye fixing agent; non-cyanide electroplating as a chelating agent; and electronics cleaning.
