Ethylenediaminetetramethylenephosphonic acid sodium salt, or EDTMPS for short, is a nitrogen-containing organic polyphosphonic acid compound with excellent performance. It is well known in the chemical world for its excellent corrosion and scale inhibition ability, and is widely used in the field of water treatment.
The molecular structure of EDTMPS contains phosphonic acid groups and nitrogen atoms, which makes it an effective cathodic type corrosion inhibitor. Compared with inorganic polyphosphates, its corrosion inhibition efficiency is higher and can significantly reduce the rate of metal corrosion, thus protecting equipment from corrosion damage. In addition, EDTMPS has good chemical stability and temperature resistance, and maintains good scale inhibition even at temperatures as high as 200℃.
In water treatment, EDTMPS effectively prevents scale formation by forming macromolecular network complexes with calcium, magnesium and other metal ions in water, which destroys the normal crystallization process of calcium scale. This property makes EDTMPS play an important role in circulating cooling water systems, boiler water treatment and other industrial processes where scale control is required.
Specifically, EDTMPS is typically dosed at 2 to 10 milligrams per liter when used alone in circulating cooling water. When compounded with HPMA in a 1:3 ratio, it can also be used for water treatment within low pressure boilers. In boiler water treatment, EDTMPS reduces calcium salt deposits, maintains the thermal efficiency of the equipment and is effective even at very high temperatures.
